Stopping by Lees Ferry, as I almost always do, on another hot summer day. Why? Because it’s one of the most sublime views on Earth. And because there are always river rafting trips rigging up and launching there, being the put-in point for Grand Canyon river trips.
So I steamed some corn on the cob for supper, watching the boatmen ready their rafts and dories for the next day’s launch. Walked into the river and soaked my shirt with the cold clear river water, gasping as I put it on. Evaporative cooling, very efficient and refreshing. The bats were darting about in the evening sky; lots of gnats and other insects for them to feast on for their breakfast.
